Penelope A. Wilson

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

With more than 25 years of nonprofit experience and a lifelong love of animals, Penelope Wilson brings the perfect combination of skills and passion to the Humane Society of Union County.

As our Director of Development, Penelope is expanding area awareness of the Humane Society’s work as she powers the building capital campaign for a larger Monroe Low Cost Spay-Neuter Clinic, the only facility of its kind in Union County.  Additionally, Penelope is our relationship manager for individual and corporate donors, foundation and government grants, and planned and estate giving.

Penelope earned her B.S. in Business Administration from the College of Charleston and her EMBA from the McColl School of Business at Queens University of Charlotte. She has the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential, is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and has completed Leadership Gift School of the Institute for Philanthropic Leadership.

Penelope’s nonprofit experience encompasses notable organizations in the Carolinas.  In 1996, she founded the Komen Charlotte Race for the Cure® and was Komen Charlotte’s first Executive Director.  She went on to direct development  at Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens, Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, Pat’s Place Child Advocacy Center, YWCA Central Carolinas, and PETSinc Animal Rescue before joining the Humane Society of Union County.

Penelope enjoys quiet time with her family and rescue dog, Apollo, a Great Dane Mix.
